I have now seen the film The Hobbit. Generally it was good, but it seems to me they added some things to it. It has been a while since I read it, so I am not exactly sure about that... I always wonder why the filmmaker/scriptwriters believe they are better than the Author and think it necessary to add things... BUT that is not what I was writing about today.
What I was thinking about when I saw the movie is how Bilbo is a hero. And that is part of why we like the story. A small little man, not concerned with "Adventures" suddenly gets called to move beyond himself to become a hero. I am not the first to see this and not the last to see it either.
But what I think I was thinking about was that we can also be a Hero. God is calling us to fight the good fight, to be wary of that old dragon that wants to devour us, to stand for what is good, to not have a spirit of fear, to love, to be honorable... in short to be a Hero. I think God has put that want into our makeup. I think He calls us to follow Him, to take His Quest and to go on Adventure with Him. It may not be safe but it is what you were made to do.
